Contact Orange County Records Offices

Orange County Busted Mugshots is privately operated. It is not a government office and cannot confirm custody, release anyone, obtain a booking photo, change a court record, or pull a protected file. The offices below are the proper contacts for current answers. Use the detention center for custody questions, the Sheriff’s records staff for county files, a city police department for its report, and the Clerk for court information.

Do not send personal records, financial information, or urgent safety details to this private reference site. For an emergency, call 911. For a records question, contact the government custodian directly.

Orange County Sheriff and Jail

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is the official source for the county detention system, Current Detainees, New Booking Photos, and its Administration Division records route.

The Orange County Detention Center is at 1200 U.S. Highway 70 West, Hillsborough, NC 27278, and its phone is 919-245-2940. The county’s First 24 Hours page directs people to this number for charge, offense level, bond, and first-appearance questions when a new arrest is not visible online. Pretrial Services numbers listed by the county are 919-245-2970 and 919-245-2593.

Where Each Question Belongs

Sending a request to the wrong office can add delay. Match the record to the agency that created or keeps it:

  • Use OCSO Current Detainees or New Booking Photos for the county’s live custody and recent-photo pages.
  • Use OCSO Administration for county arrest reports, warrants, Detention Center files, and public-record requests.
  • Use Chapel Hill Police, Carrboro Police, or Hillsborough Police for a municipal report or city agency question.
  • Use the Orange County Clerk or magistrates for court events, dispositions, official copies, and first-appearance questions.
  • Use North Carolina DAC, BOP, or ICE for state, federal, or immigration custody questions rather than the county jail.

City Police Contacts

City records are separate from county booking records. The police office can explain its report process, but it may not hold the county booking photo.

Orange County Court Contact

The Orange County court directory lists the Clerk at 919-644-4500, magistrates at 919-644-4690, the District Attorney at 919-644-4600, and criminal-court email at orange.criminal@nccourts.org. The courthouse is at 106 E. Margaret Lane, Hillsborough, NC 27278, with public hours generally Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The eCourts Portal is a public search tool, not the official court record. A court date or pending charge is not a conviction. Ask the Clerk for an official copy or case-specific direction.

Privacy and Legal Limits

Only the responsible government office can decide whether a photo, report, or status may be released. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, active-investigation, medical, victim, and other protected information may be withheld or redacted. A person named in a booking record is presumed innocent, and a charge remains an allegation until the court resolves it.
